Take No Memories “The Parting” (Continued From 1/7/12)

Author: kenfre

Life had allowed few explanations for this family.  It was pointless to ask for one now.  The petite, long-haired woman with sensuous red lips and smooth, clear skin sat calmly with her family, alone in her thoughts.  She knew only too well that answers sometimes never come.  Resting her crippled hands under the gum-stuck table, the mother’s eyes displayed concern as they darted from Ally to little Irish who was sheltered, unaware, under her father’s sinewy arm.  His thoughts weretoo deep  about the situation, but mostly wishing he had purchased the easiest, best rolling carry on luggage .

Two and a half years earlier, the beautiful woman was thought by some to be Ally’s teen sister.  Now, although still alluring, her body spoke of racking arthritis.  Only recently, was she able to walk unattended again, strong enough, in fact, to hold a maid service job at the prestigious El Rancho Hotel.  But even with remission of her illness, the telltale signs remained.  She knew the disease would only continue and worsen as time passed. As she looked at the innocence of childhood in the faces of her children, she knew Ally’s answer from his father held meanings too piercing for him to ask his father again.  ( to be continued )   / copywrited  /
