Take No Memories / continued frm: 1/26/12 – Chapter 2 “United States Army”

Author: kenfre

(continued from 1/26/12)

Ally got into his pajamas while his mother helped his father change Irish.  Climbing up the small ladder, the two children with their small carry on luggage made themselves comfortable.  Ally’s sister was to be kept next to the wall of the  Pullman which contained a small window in which to view their temporary world.  With parent’s permission, they looked out just as the train began to puff forward, jerking with iron-grabbing sound.  Smoke and steam filtered past

their window.

Ally’s eyes grew heavy as he watched gray poles race by his window and he heard the syncopated rhythm of the tracks beneath him.  He  moved away from the window and covered himself and his sleeping sister. “Good night,”he said, barely audible.  “Good night, dear,” came the settling response from his mother.  Like his sister, Ally’s father was already asleep and rightfully so.  It had been and long and tiring day.
